The African Methodist Episcopal Church founded McKenzie’s Grove Camp Meeting Ground in 1876.   At some point a road was built through the center of the grounds, but this no deter the loyal campers from attending camp meeting.  

To insure the privacy around the 20 plus tents and to muffle the sound of passing cars, the board of trustees and camp participants agreed that a wall should be built on the side of the arbor closest to the road.   The camp meeting is held each September.
